Over the course of the past 20 years, WELCOA has partnered with a variety of communities across the country to establish Well City, Well Region, and Well State projects. In addition, WELCOA also partnered with communities to create locally-affiliated wellness councils. After two decades, WELCOA still extends partnership opportunities albeit on a much more limited basis. Presently, there are four licensed partners and one Well Region initiative taking place.

The Wellness Council Of Maine
In 2003 the Bangor Region Wellness Council (BRWC), a non-profit affiliate of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, was created by and for the business community to provide leadership, guidance and support to area businesses to develop or enhance workplace wellness initiatives to help Maine people attain healthier lifestyles. In 2006 the Bangor Region achieved national recognition as the first “Well Region” in the Nation per the Wellness Council of America.
The Wellness Council of Maine (WLCME) is a worksite wellness initiative birthed from the Bangor Region Wellness Council in 2008. They represent an innovative approach to hold the line on healthcare cost at their origin, specifically the unhealthy lifestyles of employees and their families. WLCME's mission is to advance and promote good health among employees statewide so that the business community can maintain productive workforces to help them thrive and prosper. The success of the Wellness Council comes from the business leaders who put time, energy and resources toward making this a healthier environment for everyone.
It is WLCME's goal to see individual companies and individual employees make changes to improve lives and lower healthcare costs by promoting employee wellness within the business community using the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) model.
