Health & Fitness Specialist (Colorado)

ROLE OF POSITION

To provide professional staffing and daily management of one medium worksite fitness center and small satellite location in downtown Denver. To create a supportive environment, promote and administer healthy lifestyle programs, and to reach established membership sales and program engagement goals. To assist in the delivery of wellness services to other clients as requested.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide professional staffing of the medium fitness center at various times during its hours of operation.
  • Become proficient at utilizing fitness center management software to administer billing and reporting.
  • Administer proper screening and clearance for all new employee members at both facilities.
  • Recruit new members and retain members on an ongoing basis.
  • Conduct fitness equipment orientations, administer fitness assessments, and develop exercise prescriptions.
  • Provide marketing and advertising for the fitness facilities and associated programs.
  • Keep accurate records including the tracking of utilization of the Fitness Center and other programs.
  • Compose and distribute a periodic newsletter for fitness center members.
  • Teach group fitness classes.
  • Provide members with information regarding safe nutrition, fitness, and weight management guidelines.
  • Provide incentive or attendance-based challenge programs for members.
  • Provide semi-annual demonstrations or special events for members.
  • Prepare reports for fitness facilities and other programs.
  • Provide on-going communication and guidance in order to ensure the fitness facilities and other services are a valued and utilized benefit for eligible members in the surrounding area.
  • Provide routine maintenance of fitness equipment and coordinate maintenance contracts.
  • Manage and adhere to assigned budgets.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Competencies/Expectations

  • Conduct oneself and all programs according to the best practice standards outlined in the health and fitness industry.
  • Maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge of fitness and wellness programs and strategies, including legal and compliance issues.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with Healthbreak personnel, as well as internal and external contacts.
  • Administer additional fee-for-service fitness or wellness programs services to other participants, regardless of membership to the facilities.
  • Conduct one-on-one and/or small group personal training sessions.
  • Teach group fitness classes or health education programs at other locations.
  • Contribute to hiring of group fitness class instructors and/or equipment needs of fitness center.
  • Assist in the delivery of fitness/wellness services to other Healthbreak clients.
  • Contribute to the development of long term plans and strategies.
  • Be an engaged Healthbreak team member and participate on other projects and activities.

Supervisory Duties/Responsibility

No direct employee supervision. Oversight of contracted group fitness instructors, equipment maintenance contracts and other vendor contracts as required.

 

Travel Expectation

No travel expected outside of Denver Metro area.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor\’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or related health field.
  • Solid knowledge of exercise physiology, fitness testing, exercise prescription, and nutrition.
  • One to two years of experience working in a worksite or commercial fitness center and promoting memberships and other services. Personal training experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively lead the instruction of group fitness classes.
  • Strong skills in using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other fitness center management software.
  • ACSM Certified (CPT, HFS) or similar certification preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED & First Aid certification.
  • Professional image and a personal role model for fitness and health promotion.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate or influence others.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently to carry out work and assigned tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to quiet.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear; frequently required to stand; pushing/pulling, lifting/carrying, bending/squatting is part of the daily job.
  • Moderate physical activity required to effectively lead group classes and demonstrate equipment that includes frequent lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
