Recreation, Wellness, and Fitness Center Manager

The Wellness Program Manager supervises part time lifeguards, intermural specialists, and specialty group exercise instructors that provide a variety of center services to individuals and groups. Regular communication and responsiveness to these employees’ needs is important.
Description
Position Summary and Scope of Responsibility
- The Recreation, Wellness, and Fitness Center Manager is responsible for the Rec Center, Fitness Studio, and Pool operations, including supervision of staff, oversight of facility, development and management of policies and procedures, and promotion of the facility and services.
Schedule may vary, 40 hrs. per week
- Mon. – 7:30am – 4:00pm
- Tue. – 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Wed. – 10:30am- 7:00pm
- Thurs. – 10:30am-7:00pm
- Fri. – 7:30am-1:30pm
**Sample schedule provided, desired availability is 2 earlier days and 2 later days per week.
Qualifications:
- Education: Four-year degree in health promotion, kinesiology, exercise physiology, recreation or a closely related field is required
- Experience: At least three years’ experience in the field, experience in higher level education is preferred
Special Knowledge:
- Ability to lead a variety of group exercise classes is required
- Strong technical knowledge in exercise prescription and education
- Good understanding of general health topics as well as worksite health promotion processes.
- Ability to utilize a variety of standard office software, such as MS office, as well as specific fitness center software is also required
Certifications/Licenses:
- CPR/AED Certification is required
- Group Exercise Certification is preferred – i.e., ACE Group Exercise Instructor or specialty format such as Zumba, Spin, Barre, Yoga, etc.
- Fitness/Health-Related Certification from recognized certifying body is preferred – i.e., ACSM Personal Training, ACE Health Coach, NSCA CSCS, NASM CES etc.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision and Facility Oversight
- Supervise team of 6 health professionals– 2 Student Lifeguards, 2 Intermural Specialists, 2 Specialty Group Exercise Instructors
- Oversee the Rec Center facility, Fitness Studio, and Pool, including equipment maintenance and service agreements as well as facility cleanliness
- Drive quality improvement efforts for Recreation Program
- Ensure the safety of client Rec Center members and team of health professionals
- Work formally and informally to promote and represent the Recreation Program in the best possible light
Planning, Implementation, and Analysis
- Lead planning and implementation process for client Recreation Program and activities
- Provide individual exercise education and coaching to members, including InBody Assessments
- Lead a variety of group fitness classes, 2-4 classes per week
- Provide group health and fitness educational and behavior change programs
- Integrate Recreation Program initiatives with other client health programming and services
- Lead coordination and implementation of intramural activities
